Some recent and currently pending projects
May and June 2014
After a lengthy and thorough preparation phase, we started the conversion project of 12 ships for the American ship owner Edison Chouest Offshore. One by one these vessels will be upgraded in order to comply to better dynamic positioning requirements coming from the customers of this owner.
In Brazil we carried out a condition check on board offshore support vessels "AH Liguria" and her sister "AH Camogli", belonging to Italian operator Finarge. Due to the busy charter these vessels are in, this back-to-back maintenance had to be planned carefully.
While being present in Singapore for a service job on board a LNG tanker anyway, we took the opportunity to go on board cruisehip "The World" there as well. Due to the busy schedule of this vessel and its short periods in port, this was the ideal moment to go on board for a few hours for a 'health check' on the 12-year old propulsion gearboxes.
For the Dutch operator RollDock we commissioned the Flender propulsion gearboxes on board their new build heavy lift vessel "RollDock Storm", hull 759, at the FSG yard in Flensburg, Germany.
In Brazil we overhauled both Lohmann & Stolterfoht GVL 1250 propulsion gearboxes on board offshore support vessel "Far Sailor", as owned and managed by Norwegian company Farstad Shipping.
Dredging company Royal Boskalis Wesminster gave us a call. They did some measurements on their dredgepump pneumatic clutch on board THSD "WD Mersey" and forwarded some pictures as they had their doubts on the condition. After consulting a bill of material was made, parts were ordered and shipped on short notice and this month in Liverpool we carried out the overhaul of this L&S Pneumaflex clutch.
February and March 2014
At the Singaporean shipyard Sembawang we have overhauled both Lohmann & Stolterfoht double-in-single-out propulsion gearboxes and pneumatic clutches on board the below displayed supply vessel for the royal yacht of the sultan of Oman, named MV "Fulk Al Salamah".
In Italy for shipyard Fincantieri Navali we succesfully carried out the commissioning and sea trials for one of their most recent launches, a vessel for the Algerian navy equipped with single-in-single-out Flender gear units. Vessel name cannot be disclosed.
For the French shipowner Gazocean we simultaneously mondernized their both LNG-tankers "Gaselys" and "Provalys" at the Keppel repair yard in Singapore by exchanging the gearing. The four Flender gear units, two per vessel and weighing 100.000kgs each, were very complex. Power supply for the electrical propulsion motors partially comes from gas turbines driven by residual gas out of the vessels' payload and partially by conventional diesel engines.
In our Rotterdam workshop we have under repair the PTO shaft belonging to a propulsion gearbox of a Swedish owned multi purpose vessel. A PTO shaft, power-take-off, is a special feature to a gearbox. It enables the gear unit to simultaneously reduce the input speed for propulsion purposes and increase input speed on a secondary shaft for power generation purposes while steaming. After disassembling the shaft on-site we made sure the vessel could resume service again, we transported the shaft to our workshop and are currently awaiting parts. The repaired shaft is to be put back in the gearbox upon next port of call.
